It seems like Google was quite right in displaying android eats apple picture at Google I/O 2011. Android is eating the  global smartphone market share in real. Millennial Media has revealed a new report on the global smartphone market share for April 2011. According to the report Android continues to dominate with the first position in market share by possessing 53% , on the second is Apple iOS with 28% and RIM’s BlackBerry OS came in third with 16%.Symbian, Windows, and others were able to accumulate 4% impressions combined.

Apple still stands on the first in application revenues, iOS platform revenue grew from 44% month-over-month to 50%.Whereas, Android is close with 39% and RIM is way behind at 9%. The report also indicated that top downloaded application categories are games, mobile social networking, and music/entertainment.Millennial Media sees over 142 million unique mobile impressions on its network each month from over 5,500 different devices.
