It had been announced last year that Android 4.0 a.k.a Ice Cream Sandwich would be available on most phones by Q4 of 2011, but the update got delayed.Well “2012” is turning out to be “The Year for Android’ s Ice Cream Sandwich.” The updates have already started rolling out, Samsung’s flagship phone of 2011 the Galaxy S II is to be the second phone from Samsung to get a ICS update (for those of you who don’t know ICS started on Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus ).
The wait is finally over as Android Beam, Face Unlock and more are coming this Saturday on your Galaxy S II. Samsung officially announced on its Philippines page, that ICS will be dropping by on the Galaxy S II on 10th March. While Samsung Israel on their site stated that it would arrive on March 15th in their country.
Samsung on their official page said
“We promised we were working on it. You waited patiently. And on 15 March it’ll arrive,” Samsung said via its Facebook feed. It added: “Android version 4, ICS, to tens of thousands of GALAXY S II devices purchased from cellular companies in the country or directly from us. We are very excited for the launch, hope you are too :).”
ICS has started rolling out since a couple of days, with releases for some of HTC’s 2011 range such as the Sensation and Sensation XE in Germany and Nordic countries so far, with more updates arriving later this week. Galaxy Note and formerly known Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Arc will get their updates till end of this month.
