Sony Xperia Jelly Bean

Not so long ago, Sony had released a long list of Xperia Android devices which were to receive Ice Cream Sandwich for their  2011 as well as a few 2012 smartphones. After ICS, its now time for the company to start rolling out updates for all its 2012 Xperia devices to Android’d most current version, Jelly Bean. Unfortunately the update as mentioned earlier would only be arriving on almost all those devices which have been released in 2012 which means that prior versions of the Xperia series would not be receiving the new update. This has left quite a few brand loyal customers of Sony steaming as they were expecting their more than capable devices to get a taste of Jelly Bean which now seems unlikely to happen.

The initial devices to receive Android 4.1 will be Sony’s latest handsets, the Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V, but the new Android build won’t be pushed to those devices until early 2013. After the first round of Jelly Bean updates, Sony will move on to updating devices such as the Xperia S, Xperia Ion, and Xperia P. No official timeline has been given for when to expect these phones to be upgraded. When asked about why the older models would not be receiving the update, a representative of Sony had this to say,

“Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.”

For those who own any of the above mentioned devices would be jumping with joy after reading this post and for those of who wont be getting the update shouldn’t be left much dejected and should keep telling themselves that atleast they got upgraded from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich. Right ? A full rundown of other devices can be found from Sony’s official blog
