Introducing the World’s Slimmest Phablet – The Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Sony have truly seemed to hit the jackpot this time around with the announcement of the all new Sony Xperia Z Ultra which even though the company terms it as a phone, we still prefer to call it a phablet. The device sports a 6.44-inch full-HD Triluminos display which promises to create sharper and more detailed color tones as seen in other Xperia devices prior to this one based on Sony’s BRAVIA engine, a Qualcomm 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage with additional microSD card support, an 8 megapixel HD camera, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth and an impressive looking 3,000mAh battery. Sony claims this device to be the world’s “Thinnest” full HD phone measuring in at just 6.5mm and weighing not more than 212 gms and to further sweeten things up, the device is also stated to be waterproof as well as dust resistant with an IP55 and IP58 certification.
When it comes to tackling with some of nature’s biggest forces, the Xperia Z Ultra just as its predecessors, the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, has the ability to be submerged in up to 1.50 meters of water for up to 30 minutes and is even capable of recording full-HD videos underwater. Now coming to the question which has been sterling in your mind since the time you read about the size of the device and since we are categorizing is as a phablet, it does sound fitting that it has to come equipped with a stylus right ? Well that is not the case with the Z Ultra which doesn’t actually come with an actual pen-style input device, instead the smartphone’s display is capable of taking notes using the built-in handwriting “Pencil” recognition tool. Interestingly, besides the standard capacitive stylus, the Z Ultra also lets you use a pencil or a metal pen to write on the screen.
The Xperia Z Ultra is scheduled to arrive sometime in the beginning of Q3 and would be launched in three colors: black, white and purple. As far as the pricing goes, there was no official word by neither Sony nor any of its representatives. We’ll keep you posted once the device starts rolling out. In the mean time check out the video below to get a first hand insight as to exactly what the new Xperia Z Ultra Phablet has to offer. With the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 just around the corner, Sony have most certainly thrown in their best trump card. Would it be a hit just like the Xperia Z ? We’ll have to wait and find out. Kudos !!
