The recently concluded CES 2014 was not only full of surprises and innovations but it also at the same time opened a gateway for entirely reshaping the future. One such step is the Open Automotive Alliance partnership that comprises of big names not only in the Automobile industry but also in the tech industry as well. These include the likes of Audi, GM, Honda, Hyundai, NVIDIA and of course Google. Most of these aforementioned car manufacturers are planning of integrating the marvel of Google’s Android Operating System with some of its high end cars with Audi being the first in line to showcase their very own customized Android Tablet which is to be featured in some of its marquee models that are scheduled to start rolling out within a year. Let us look at some of the new auto-focused features:
- Passenger uses mapping feature on the tablet to find destinations, points of interest, traffic patterns, etc… and beam the destination to the driver’s console, instantly updating it with turn-by-turn directions.
- Driver can insert DVD and beam it to the passenger’s console for entertainment purposes
- Control everything from windows, doors, sunroofs, temperature, etc… all from the tablet
- Detach tablet from holder and use it as a full Android tablet running Android 4.3 (upgrading to 4.4 soon)
