Galaxy K Zoom

Samsung at the Red Dot Museum in Singapore launched its next camera cum smartphone today, the Galaxy K Zoom. The device has been given a drastic makeover from its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 Zoom. Samsung have now come up with a new “K” series for its camera centric line of smartphones. The device features a 20.7 MP camera with 10x Optical Zoom compared to the previous model which had a 16MP camera with the same zoom, but the camera has been improved quite bit as compared to its predecessor.

Under the Hood

If we look under the hood the smartphone has some more than decent specs, a 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, hexa-core Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 processor with two 1.7GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores, 2 GB RAM, 8 GB internal memory, 2.1 MP front shooter and a 2430 mAh battery. As far as connectivity goes, the K Zoom comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0LE, GPS, NFC and HSPA+. The device runs on the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, with the new TouchWiz skin on it. The phone can support up to 64 GB of memory via microSD. So you do not need to worry about having any memory issues, whilst taking pictures.

Body

The Galaxy K Zoom comes in the same plastic body we have known Samsung to use for quite a while now. The smartphone has a thickness of 16.6 mm and comes with a textured back that is similar to the one offered in the Galaxy S5. This makes the device much thinner than the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the camera lens gets tucked very nicely in line with the body, so you do not feel any unnecessary bulk when carrying or using the smartphone. Best part is it feels like a smartphone and not a point and click shooter. The Galaxy K Zoom comes with a dedicated shutter button, so taking pictures becomes a whole lot fun.

Camera

Now lets talk about the main feature of the Galaxy K Zoom, the camera! The smartphone has a 20.7 MP 1/2.3 BSI CMOS camera sensor with 10x optical zoom, Xenon flash and OIS. The camera software UI is similar to that found in the Galaxy S5 but this device has 28 different shooting modes. This means you can have a whole lot of fun capturing memorable moments. The modes include  Selfie Alarm that lets you position a box on screen for where your face will be so that when you turn the camera around, it can lock on and give you an audible warning before it fires off three shots. Pro Suggest is another mode, when you frame up your subject, half press the shutter release, and up pops a row of shooting mode suggestions that can be applied. So for example if you are sitting in a candle light dinner and want to take a picture of your scrumptious looking food then, focou on it half press the shutter and you will get options such as Macro, Food, Low light etc.  The Galaxy K Zoom takes 1080p videos at 60 fps so you will not miss out on any of your precious moments.
