Samsung officially announces the GALAXY S5 LTE-A with 3GB RAM and a WQHD 2K Display
Rumors were flying rampant about the possible launch of the latest (upgraded) version of the Samsung GALAXY S5 a.k.a the GALAXY S5 Prime. Well folks the curtains have finally been lifted today…for those who are residing in South Korea at least. Samsung officially announced their up scaled variant of the GALAXY S5 by adding an LTE-A (LTE- Advanced) notion next to it. Well as you all must have thought, LTE-A is actually the latest entrant in the 4G/LTE genre with speeds reaching up to a staggering 225Mbps. Now that’s what we would call impressive!! Besides the the super fast connectivity, another significant addition to Samsung’s flagship device of the year is the absolutely breathtaking 5.1″ QHD Super AMOLED 2K display with a resolution of 2560×1440 and 577 ppi. Besides the juiced up data transfer speeds and an awe inspiring display, the device also features a Snapdragon 805 CPU supported by 3GB LPDDR3 RAM and a much more powerful Adreno 420 GPU which is better suited to handle Full HD content than the 801′s GPU found in the standard S5.
Other hardware still pretty much remains the same that include a 16MP rear camera along with a 1.9MP front camera, a finger print scanner, heart rate monitor 2,800 mAh battery which does seem to raise a few eyebrows knowing for a fact that since the device sports not just one but a few significant upgrades in the likes of the screen, processor and additional RAM, what needs to be seen as to exactly how much juice this little bad boy has to offer by the end of a day remains to be found out. The The GALAXY S5 LTE-A is also the first smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 805 processor, which not only features four 2.5GHz Krait 450 CPU cores along with the Adreno 420 GPU, currently it is the only chip to support higher than 150 Mbps network speeds. The device comes with 32GB of internal storage along with a microSD slot with capacities up to 128GB.
As far as the device’s software is concerned, the GALAXY S5 LTE-A would be running on Android 4.4, KitKat out of the box similar to its predecessor but Samsung have promised to offer a few new additions in this department with the likes of Geo News, anniversary reminder and deep sleep all bundled together running on Samsung’s latest Touchwiz UI found in the standard S5. The GALAXY S5 LTE-A would be available in 6 color variants comprising of Charcoal Black, Shimmer White, Electric Blue, Copper Gold, Sweet Pink, and Glam Red. As of now the device is only available for South Korea and can be purchased from local carrier SK Telecom for 940,500 won (US$919), and will later launch on carriers KT and LG U+ in the weeks to come.
