Motorola have truly impressed us all this year with most of their releases. With successful launches of the 2nd generation Moto X and Moto G smartphones followed by the sleek and trendy Moto 360 smartwatch and the recently announced Nexus 6 phablet, the US based company which was in turmoil not so long ago (some say that it still remains) has managed to rapidly change their faltering fortunes with the launch of some of the most intriguing and eye catching devices in 2014. The latest entrant in the long running line of Motorola’s flagship Droid series is the “Droid Turbo”. The device truly manages to live up to its name as it promises to deliver nothing less than a turbo charged experience once its starts rolling out first to Verizon customers followed by the rest of the world.
The Droid Turbo sports a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, a 2.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC Quad-Core processor catered together with 3GB RAM, a 21MP rear camera, a 2.1 front shooter and a massive 3900 mAh battery which according to the US cellular giants promises to last for a good 48 hours on a single charge with an additional 8 hours support with a 15 minute charge thanks to Motorola’s new Turbo Charging feature similar to one in the Google (Motorola) Nexus 6 Phablet. This is one area where Android devices have seemed to drift behind over the last few years but with these new devices, gone would be the days where even the most advanced smartphones used to offer not more then half a day or in some (rare) cases a full day on a 100% charge.
As far as devices aesthetics are concerned, the Droid Turbo would be available in two variants. Motorola throughout the years are known for their excellent build quality and the Droid Turbo doesn’t fail to impress in that department. You will have a choice between either a sturdy ballistic nylon finish (the material used is different from the Kevlar fabric initially used in the previous Droid devices) that not only gives the device a rugged look and feel but also at the same time makes it extremely durable. For those of you who give preference to style over anything else, the Droid Turbo would also be available in a sleek “metalized glass” finish in red and black color variants.
The device also features Qi Wireless charging option and like most Moto devices, the Droid Turbo would be running on the stock version (Vanilla) of Android KitKat with a future update for Android 5.0 Lollipop promised as well. The Droid Turbo is currently exclusive to Verizon Wireless customers and would be made available from October 30th for an expected price of $199 on contract and $599 outright. If you’re on the lookout for a new phone that not only packs a lot of power but looks good as well, then the Motorola Droid Turbo should very well make it to your Christmas shopping list pretty soon.
