Galaxy S7 edge

The Unpacked event just got over and the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge were officially unveiled. Earlier we got some of the specs, and we are happy to say most of them were in line. The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge both are beasts when it comes to raw power due to the Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820 chipsets. If that wasn’t enough, the devices house 4GB LPDDR4 RAM to speed things up.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have surpassed the competition when it comes to graphical performance, joining hands with Epic Studios to come up with Next Gen Console like immersive gaming experience. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge come with the new Vulcan API for gaming that Android 6.0 introduced to the platform, and Samsung has also built-in quite a few tools and features of its own to improve the gaming experience. Not only that but users are also getting $200 worth of in-game currency to use. While we are on the topic of gaming, it is also worth mentioning that the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge both come with “Liquid Cooling”, which keeps the heating at bay, for those long gaming sessions.

We are also rejoiced to say, Samsung have heard the cries of its customers and brought back the microSD card slot (slow applause). Both the devices can support upto 200GB, which is more than enough even for the power user. Internal storage options are 32GB or 64, though 128GB could be in the pipeline too but was not mentioned at the event.

Talking a bit about the design, the S7 and S7 edge both bring back the metal and glass body of their predecessors. Though a few changes have been made which are more than welcome especially for the S7 edge. A lot of people had complained that the Galaxy S6 edge plus did not feel right in the hand, it had no grip. Samsung have rectified this, by using 3D thermal forming to make an ergonomic back, which gives it a much better grip.

Now, lets talk about the camera, if increasing mega pixels was the way to go, then Samsung have taken a step back. Though, this is not true (some may argue that it is, but then that’s their opinion), the lens is what makes the difference. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge come with the first ever Dual Pixel camera, which means that auto focus speed has bumped up quite a bit, as compared to the S6, which was considered to have the best camera, is quite impressive. The 12.2 MP camera sensor has an aperture of f/1.7 which means can take in more light, this alone is not enough, each pixel has been made bigger (1.4 micron), when these two combine, night time pictures will be a whole lot of fun. The front of the camera houses a 5MP camera but with the same f/1.7, so even low light selfies will come out much more brighter.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge come with a 5.1 and a 5.5 inch QHD Super AMOLED display respectively covered with Gorilla Glass 5. No matter how gorgeous the display looks, some people find it troublesome to keep on picking their devices to see the time for example. This problem has now been solved with Always-on Display, it can even be customized the way you like for a more personal feel.

When it comes to protection the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are both IP68 certified, which means they are Water Resistant and Dust Proof.  So, it can survive under 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Underwater pool pictures anyone?
