Cyanogen Inc releases the CM11 M8 ROM packed with cool new features

Cyanogen Inc releases the CM11 M8 ROM packed with cool new features

Cyanogen Inc have yet to disappoint us, as they had promised they have delivered. Their latest stable ROM “CM11 M8” has been released and most of the handsets have started to get the update over the air. Cyanogen Inc have stopped making “RC” (Release Candidate) builds and have shifted their concentration to”M” (Monthly) builds. CM11 M8 is built on the Android 4.4.4 ROM, with it comes almost all the bug fix and security patches. Patches and bug fixes are not the  only thing you get with this update. The stock launcher, Trebuchet has been given a custom sliding panel to the left of the home screen. Similar to Google Experience Launcher. Last month Google announced their upcoming Android L OS, with it came a new notification option called “HeadsUp Notificaion”. The Cyanogen team have ported this feature in this build, so you do not have to wait for Android L. Security has also been increased with folder lock, so you do not need to individually unlock similar apps just unlock the folder and you are good to go. This makes it easily accessible as well protected from prying eyes. Here is the full changelog if you want to read. According to Cyanogen if you are using nightlies, and it is any nightly before June 29th, then you will have no problems in installing this ROM. If by any chance it is after that date, they you probably should download an older nightly before applying this ROM. Here’s the link to Cyanogen’s download page, grab the ROM for your device...

Nokia X rooted with Google Apps – XDA does it again

Nokia X rooted with Google Apps – XDA does it again

The recently concluded Mobile World Congress was full of surprises with the biggest one coming in from Nokia with the announcement of their very first devices based on the core Android architecture, the Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL. The Finnish cellular giants had for long kept their distance from Google’s platform which has taken over the world by storm and is still continuing to do so as we speak. With that said, even though the new devices are developed using the Android platform, they tend to be somewhat different from you usually tend to see in your other Android devices. On the day of its launch, Nokia specifically mentioned that that both the devices would be having their own customized features and would also be supporting third party stores with no mention of Google Play in any of the discussions which technically meant that there would be no access to any of the Google Apps (G-Apps) like Google Now, Google Maps, Google Now Launcher, most importantly the Google Play Store. Now here’s the best part. No matter how hard you try concealing from the world, at the end of the day the device is actually running on Android isn’t it…which clearly means that even if anybody says its not possible to this or that…..we all know that eventually there is going to be a solution to everything. On that note, one of our friends at XDA Developers was able to run an old and well known exploit (Gandalf) to obtain root on the Nokia X. After that, he simply installed a file system explorer that can read system partitions, such as Root Explorer, and manually pushed all of the standard Google applications on to Nokia X’s system directory. Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? So there you have it guys, you must have heard of an old saying that goes something like this. “where there is a will..there is a way” and in this case there are a lot of things we can (and will) do once the devices start rolling out in a few months. This is probably one of the main reasons why we just can’t seem to get over our favorite little green robot can we?...

Samsung introduces the Galaxy S4 – Black Edition

Samsung have been busy this week with the launch of their new Note 3 and now the new version of the Galaxy S4. The new Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini variants are called the “Black Edition”, with a faux leather at the back of the devices. Samsung have really done a great job with the outer body of the S4’s with the new Black finish making it more classier than ever. When its comes to specs though, there is no change. The S4 will be sporting the same specs as the LTE variant (Quad-Core) and the S4 mini will be the same Dual-Core version. Sadly the “Black Edition” Galaxy S4’s are only available in Russia so far, so the world has to still wait for these classy babies to reach their shores. The price itself would be a bit higher initially as well, with the new S4’s having the exclusivity tag with them. So if you were thinking of buying the S4 anytime soon, just wait a bit more and get your hands on these gorgeous looking...

Qualcomm to launch Snapdragon 410 Chipset based on 64-bit Architecture Next Year

After the successful launch of the very first 64-bit architecture in the iPhone 5, it seemed only a matter of time since the trend started to shift to other OEM’s as well. Thanks to Qaulcomm, we might just get a glimpse of these ultra powerful chipsets in the New Year. The company has unveiled their plans for coming up with the Snapdragon 410 chipset to feature the 64-bit architecture. The 28nm silicon chip would also be the first one to support 64-bit capable hardware also featuring an LTE “World Mode” that promises to support major brands and their frequencies for 4G (LTE), 3G, dual-SIM and triple-SIM (currently in the works). The Snapdragon 410 also features an Adreno 306 GPU, support for 1080p playback, camera resolutions up to 13 megapixels, and support for Qualcomm’s standard suite of radios for WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and more. We could also see future devices coming out with more RAM thanks to the new 64-bit chipsets as currently the devices can only support up to 3GB. According to Qualcomm, the company is expected to start sampling the chips from the beginning of New Year and should (hopefully) be made available for consumer products sometime mid 2014.
