CM 11 Developement gets under way

CM 11 Developement gets under way

CyanogenMod today have confirmed that they have started with the development of CM 11 which is Android 4.4 KitKat. CM has been one of the most stable custom ROMs out there, replicating the stock Vanilla theme of a Google device.  CM currently is on version 10.2 (Android 4.3 Jelly Bean) but is still in the nightly phase. Recently they have upped the version to M1, which means Milestone version. This is between a stable and test build, has very few bugs but can be used as a daily ROM. CM have been able to develop most parts of the ROM, but some features are a bit more tricky than others, mainly Trebuchet, Phone App and Lockscreen. On their Google Plus page they had posted that this will take a day or so more. So we can expect a nightly build by next week or two. CM have brought new life into aging devices with their custom ROMs and continue to do so! Keep up the good works guys we have your back all the...

Get the Android 4.4 Experience with the new Google Launcher

Get the Android 4.4 Experience with the new Google Launcher

When Nexus 5 got launched the world just could not wait to set their eyes on the new Android 4.4 OS a.k.a KitKat. A lot of impatient people including us wanted to get our hands on the Nexus 5 to get a first hand feel of Android 4.4. Now for people who are not lucky enough to get the device, we have found a work around for them. It was rumored that Google were going to launch a stock Android 4.4 launcher on the Play Store, well there seems to be a whole bunch of truth in that. A little digging and we got our hands on this little baby. Voila….!! The Google Experience Launcher. We tried it on our Rooted Galaxy SII and Nexus S and it seemed to work flawlessly. Though a search glitch is found when you install the app for the first time, just follow the work around and your good to go! Long press the home screen, select Settings. Select Voice. Select Language to change the default. Change to another language, I choose English – UK. Hit Home. Do a Google Search. Repeat the first three steps. Change back to default language.   In order for the launcher to work you will need to download the following files: PreBuiltGmsCore (Google Play Services 4.0) Velvet (Google Search) GoogleHome (Google Launcher) It is a bit risky, so you better know what you are doing! If you need any help just leave a message in our comments section. Enjoy the Google...

Nexus S gets a taste of Android 4.4 KitKat with new Custom ROM

Nexus S gets a taste of Android 4.4 KitKat with new Custom ROM

Google promised that Android 4.4 would be able to run smoothly on low hardware, even smartphones having 512MB of RAM. Google seems to have kept their part of the bargain but sadly, the phone manufacturers don’t seem to be on the same boat though. Samsung already scratched the Galaxy Nexus from the list of devices to get the update. So devices before the Galaxy Nexus do not seem to begetting the update. Even though the old devices will not get official Android 4.4 KitKat on their devices, customs ROMs are always a possibility. That is the beauty of Android, developers can use the kernel to develop custom ROMs. The Nexus S is one such device which thanks to a XDA member cn.fyodor is getting its own custom Android 4.4 KitKat ROM.  The ROM has made the Nexus S relatively faster than before, so Google do seem to be on track of keeping their promise after all. The ROM is still in alpha stage so it would be having a couple of bugs, but you can do the usual stuff (surf the web, make a call etc) without any hitch, so if you want to have a sweet taste of Android 4.4 KitKat then head over to the XDA link provided below and try it out. ROM Link : XDA Note: We at TalkAndroidPhones do not take any responsibility for any issues faced while installing the ROM. So please backup everything and then try...

Gmail App for Android gets Updates, Are they Prepping for Android 4.4 KiKat?

Gmail App for Android gets Updates, Are they Prepping for Android 4.4 KiKat?

Google has been on its toes rolling out updates one after the other for its apps such as YouTube and Hangouts. Though they are minor updates, but still good to know Google cares to keep on updating its apps. The latest app to get the new update is Android’s Gmail app, the app now has card type UI which makes for cleaner message viewing. When you select multiple messages now a tick mark comes on each message plus a couple of new animations, of course they would be minor internal tweaks as well. People who are stingy about their device’s battery life and keep sync off, there is a new feature fro them too, a notification telling the user when sync is on or off in the app only. The update though is only for devices running  ICS and above  i.e. Android 4.0+. Perhaps these are signs that Google are working hard to prep their apps for the next Android 4.4 KitKat siad to be out in October next...
