Nokia X rooted with Google Apps – XDA does it again

Nokia X rooted with Google Apps – XDA does it again

The recently concluded Mobile World Congress was full of surprises with the biggest one coming in from Nokia with the announcement of their very first devices based on the core Android architecture, the Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL. The Finnish cellular giants had for long kept their distance from Google’s platform which has taken over the world by storm and is still continuing to do so as we speak. With that said, even though the new devices are developed using the Android platform, they tend to be somewhat different from you usually tend to see in your other Android devices. On the day of its launch, Nokia specifically mentioned that that both the devices would be having their own customized features and would also be supporting third party stores with no mention of Google Play in any of the discussions which technically meant that there would be no access to any of the Google Apps (G-Apps) like Google Now, Google Maps, Google Now Launcher, most importantly the Google Play Store. Now here’s the best part. No matter how hard you try concealing from the world, at the end of the day the device is actually running on Android isn’t it…which clearly means that even if anybody says its not possible to this or that…..we all know that eventually there is going to be a solution to everything. On that note, one of our friends at XDA Developers was able to run an old and well known exploit (Gandalf) to obtain root on the Nokia X. After that, he simply installed a file system explorer that can read system partitions, such as Root Explorer, and manually pushed all of the standard Google applications on to Nokia X’s system directory. Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? So there you have it guys, you must have heard of an old saying that goes something like this. “where there is a will..there is a way” and in this case there are a lot of things we can (and will) do once the devices start rolling out in a few months. This is probably one of the main reasons why we just can’t seem to get over our favorite little green robot can we?...

Samsung have been raring up for the launch of their 2014 flagship the Galaxy S5, but that does not mean that they have forgotten their previous top tier smartphone the Galaxy S4. Thanks to Sammobile we were able to get a leaked Android 4.4.2 Test firmware for the international version of the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505). The firmware I9505XXUFNAD is the latest test build for the Galaxy S4 and seems to be quite stable, per say a few bugs.   The update brings with it all the usual suspects of Android 4.4.2 KitKat,  making the icons in the status bar white, adding a camera shortcut on the lockscreen etc. The device according to benchmarks has received quite a nice performance boost after the update, though you might not feel much difference (As it is already a very powerful device).  Music albums on the lock screen will be shown in full screen mode, so that looks really nice. One of the note-able changes though is of the Samsung keyboard, somehow typing on it (including via gestures) has become really fast.  Well dont take my word for it, if you a feeling adventures they download the update now and see how it is yourself! New Samsung UI to be launched soon ? [Leaked]

New Samsung UI to be launched soon ? [Leaked]

Its been quite a while since we have seen a major overhaul to Touch wiz, Samsung’s customized UI that is found in almost all of its devices. The wait for getting a taste of an entirely new look to the UI might finally be over. According to a few leaked images by evleaks, we just might get to see a completely revamped Touch Wiz in the eagerly anticipated Galaxy S5 which is rumored to be launched sometime in April. The new interface has a similar looking touch and feel that makes it a hybrid of  colorful looking Windows Tiles and Google Now cards. The collection of cards includes your current location, home automation, fitness tracking, food orders, biking/cycling information, sports scores, flight information, delivery updates, event reminders, and much more. Even though there has been no official word on this by Samsung or any of its representatives, we do like to keep our cards hidden for now and just hope these rumors do turn out to be true in the end. The present Touch Wiz even though has seen has a lot of success in recent years, but now people consider it to be a little bit outdated and monotonous to say the least. As per the leaked images, we can see that these new informative cards show check-in information, location sharing, song sharing and messages from your colleagues and loved ones all stacked up within each tile. The new concept does look interesting though but now the main question is whether Samsung are going to actually stick with it or come up with yet another new design when the company eventually does decide to go public in the coming months. Even in past, evleaks has been relatively quite accurate with most of his early leaked images so for now we’ll just have to wait and see till things get official. Do stick around for further...
