Samsung issues official apology for their recent “Exploding” troubles

Samsung issues official apology for their recent “Exploding” troubles

Samsung has been having quite an “explosive” year (pun intended) and 2016 would certainly go down as one of the darkest years in the history of the South Korean Tech giants. What started off with the whole exploding Note 7 fiasco  was quickly followed by exploding washing machines as well. All these mishaps have certainly dented the company’s immaculate reputation, especially when it comes to innovation and safety of their devices. In light of these unfortunate events, Samsung have issued an official apology to the consumers and especially those who were effected with some of their aforementioned devices. To show its commitment to the apology, the South Korean giant has run full-page apology ads in popular newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Washington...

Android 7.1 Developer Preview is now available for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Pixel C

The Google Pixel phones have been the talk of the town recently with both the devices, Pixel and Pixel XL getting a lot of positive feedback from those who have been lucky enough to get their hands on them. For now, these are the only two devices that come with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. Starting from today, Google has started rolling out the Developer Preview version of Android 7.1 for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and the Pixel C. Unfortunately, Nexus 6 and Nexus Player users would not be getting the update at this point in time. Here’s a highlight of some of the new changes that will be coming once you have loaded Android 7.1 on your devices: App shortcuts API — lets you surface key actions directly in the launcher and take your users deep into your app instantly. You can create up to 5 shortcuts, either statically or dynamically. Circular app icons support — lets you provide great-looking rounded icon resources that match the look of Pixel and other launchers. Enhanced wallpaper metadata — lets you provide metadata about your wallpapers to any picker displaying the wallpapers as a preview. You can show existing metadata such as label, description, and author, as well as a new context URL and title to link to more information. For those of you who own any of the aforementioned supported devices can get a taste of the new Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview starting from today. Would you like to give it a try? Samsung officially stops Note 7 production!

Samsung officially stops Note 7 production!

Samsung being in a pickle, is the understatement of the century at this point! After multiple incidents of the Galaxy Note 7 exploding in various parts of the world, the South Korean manufacturer tried to do right by its customers and re-called the devices. Sadly though, even the replacement devices were going boom as well. So Samsung had to make an extremely hard call and stop the production of the device altogether. The fault lied mainly with the device’s battery. According to sources, the battery manufacturing was outsourced, but the real reason for the device to catch fire is still unconfirmed. Samsung pulling the plug on the Note 7’s production has majorly dented their stock value, with a loss of around $ 17 Billion. A Samsung spokeswoman referred to an earlier statement from the company: “For the benefit of consumers’ safety, we stopped sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7 and have consequently decided to stop production.” Samsung will need to pull up its socks and work around this issue, as quickly as they can, as for sure there will be ripple effects. Chances are that this incident will surely impact the sales of the next device Samsung will launch, the S8 seems to be the likeliest contender so far. So, for those who were lucky or unlucky to use the device, got to experience what in all fairness was a great smartphone overall. RIP Note 7!...

Specs and other details of Pixel devices leaked a day before Google’s big launch event

Specs and other details of Pixel devices leaked a day before Google’s big launch event

We’re still one day away from Google’s big launch event where we are expecting our favorite tech giants to make a bunch of exciting announcements that include their new Pixel lineup for smartphones, Chromecast Ultra and a host of other devices. With all major launch events, you do expect a couple of leaked (rendered and sometimes actual) images of the devices that will be launched especially when it comes to smartphones. Same was the case with the Pixel devices, as our friends at Droid Life managed to get their hands on the complete details of both devices that are going to launch on Oct 4th, 2016. The following details have been extracted from the websites of various retailers but the one thing that is still to be made sure is the pricing and availability of the devices. Here is the info from Carphone Warehouse’s site: What are the takeaways from all of that? A few things stand out. For one, CW is referring to this as the “first standalone phone” from Google, which matches up with the #madebygoogle hashtag they are advertising it with. Even though HTC may have built these phones, Google must be looking at that relationship as nothing more than a manufacturer and not a partner. From there, CW talks about two sizes (Pixel and Pixel XL), having access to Google Assistant everywhere with the “OK, Google” command (not just in Allo), unlimited full resolution storing of photos through Google Photos, a “Smart Storage” feature to help you automatically clean up space on your phone, good low light photos from the camera, access to Google Duo and Allo (which is not unique to these phones), fast charging with USB Type-C (7 hours of battery in 15 minutes), and custom Live Cases like we saw for the Nexus 6P and 5X. Here are the specs according to CW: Pixel Pixel XL Software Android 7.1 Android 7.1 Display 5″ FHD AMOLED (1920×1080, 441ppi) Gorilla Glass 4 5.5″ QHD AMOLED (2560×1440, 534ppi) Gorilla Glass 4 Processor 2.15GHz Snapdragon 821 (quad-core, 64-bit) 2.15GHz Snapdragon 821 (quad-core, 64-bit) RAM 4GB 4GB Camera Rear: 12.3MP (f/2.0, 1.55um), Image stabilization Front: 8MP Rear: 12.3MP (f/2.0, 1.55um), Image stabilization Front: 8MP Battery 2770mAh Fast charging 3450mAh Fast charging Storage 32GB or 128GB No microSD support 32GB or 128GB No microSD support Other Fingerprint scanner, NFC, 3.5mm headphone, USB Type-C Fingerprint scanner, NFC, 3.5mm headphone, USB Type-C Dimensions 143.8 x 69.5 x 8.6 mm 143 grams 154.7 x 75.7 x 8.6 mm 168 grams SIM Nano Nano Here are two new press renders, courtesy of  Telus: (Pixel vs. Pixel XL) Those two images aren’t revealing much new, but the Google...
