Moto e4 Plus – A Budget phone with awesome battery life!

Moto e4 Plus – A Budget phone with awesome battery life!

Motorola has had its share of ups and downs down the years, but there is no arguing the top quality smartphones they have come up with the Motorola G series was a great entry smartphone range for the price, then they came up with their Turbo and Maxx smartphones which packed with great hardware, Most recently they ventured into the modular phone domain with the Moto Z line up. They were one of the two major OEM’s (other was LG) who took the brave step to get into this category. After Lenovo acquired Motorola, they have come back to Pakistan and have brought with them a few contenders for the mid range category namely the Moto M and the Moto E series. One of them is the Moto E4 Plus, which comes with a massive 5000 mAh battery. The Moto E4 Plus has a big 5.5 inch (1280×720) HD IPS LCD Display which is wrapped around a metal body. The display even though only 720p is good enough and you will enjoy watching videos on YouTube or play games on it. Plus with the resolution being lower it consumes less energy as well, which means more battery life. It is water repellent too which is a great plus considering you would like to take your phone with you to the toilet. On the flip side the display does not get too bright, so outdoor visibility in bright sunlight gets a bit difficult. Just below the display lies the fingerprint scanner, which doubles as a home button as well if required. Otherwise there are on display navigation keys. The fingerprint scanner is quick and was able to recognize my fingers 85% of the time, it became a bit tricky when my fingers were sweaty, otherwise it performed quite well. The best part about the fingerprint scanner is that, not only you can unlock your device, but lock back the device too. This is a great feature especially for people who don’t like to keep pressing the power button. While we are on the hardware part of things the Moto E4 Plus comes with great and I mean great speakers. Coupled with the Dolby Atmos software built in, it provides loud and crisp sound. To, check out the power of the speakers check out its video on our YouTube channel. Under the hood lies a 1.3 GHz Cortex A-53 Quad-core MediaTek processor which is not the most powerful processor around, but it will run all of your everyday apps. Though, if you are into heavy gaming, then you might feel a slight lag while playing graphic intensive game. Thanks to the 3GB RAM, the lag wasn’t...

Huawei challenges Apple’s Siri with Mobile AI

Huawei challenges Apple’s Siri with Mobile AI

There was chatter around AI a couple of years ago, triggered by Apple’s voice assistant, Siri. And while voice assistants have retreated into the background, artificial intelligence has kept hold of people’s imaginations and remains a key trend in technology. Early in 2016, Huawei predicted the coming era of AI and proposed the concept of the superphone, implementing a strategy to coordinate AI development in terms of device, cloud and chip. In 2017, Huawei continued their efforts to develop an AI chip, aiming to seize the initiative before its competition. Unsurprisingly, AI development is a priority for many leading organizations and the AI battle is about to commence. According to insider information, Apple is secretly developing an AI chip, which is rumored to be capable of improving its hardware system. Besides boosting the performance of Apple’s consumer level products such as the iPhone and iPad, it will also improve Siri’s capabilities, and will be applied to forward-looking programs like Apple’s autonomous driving system. Besides Apple, another American tech giant, Microsoft, is also expected to get involved in the AI chip, which is likely to bring more uncertainties to the battle. With its brand new mobile AI chip and Mobile AI strategy, Huawei is primed to enter the battlefield, and hopefully become a key player in this domain. The reason behind Huawei’s investment in AI is self-evident. Currently, in domains such as the smartphone, products are homogenized while market competition is getting more and more intense. AI is very much an opportunity for phone makers to survive and thrive, making it a vital battleground. While Apple and Samsung don’t have a clearly defined AI strategy in place, both of them have increased their investment in AI-related R&D activities. The Chinese tech giant Huawei, on the other hand, has announced its own AI chip plan. AI has become a platform for the phone makers to create differentiated value. Driven by the trend, winning AI is winning the future. Apple has always been working to offer highly integrated and smart products, but they are also being criticized for not being innovative enough, which could be a result of the absence of a clearly defined AI strategy. Huawei, quite different from Apple, continually invests in developing its own chips to compete with Qualcomm and Apple. The performance of its mobile chips is no longer a concern as Huawei’s capabilities in research and development are proven. And the upcoming AI chip will be something to look forward...

Introducing the Nokia 6 – A solid value phone for just under PKR 30,000

Introducing the Nokia 6 – A solid value phone for just under PKR 30,000

Until the Nokia 8 launches in Pakistan, we thought of reviewing the much talked about and anticipated Nokia 6. The leaked image of the Nokia 6 became viral the minute it hit the web. This was the first sign we got of Nokia bringing us an Android powered smartphone.  So, there was no question of not reviewing this device. After testing it out for a few weeks, here’s our review. Starting with the body, the Nokia has the look and feel of a high end device, though it is actually a mid ranger but let me assure you will fall in love with it the minute you hold it in your hands for the first time. An aluminum frame wraps around the plastic uni-body. Thanks to the plastic back, the device is not a finger print magnet, which is good for people who consider that an issue. The Nokia 6 comes with a 5.5 inch Full HD (1920x1080p) IPS LCD display, which is a bump up from the Nokia 5 and the Nokia 3 and you can tell the difference, even at first glance. The colors are vibrant and the blacks pop up (night time wallpapers look amazing!!!!). While we are on the topic of the body, the Nokia 6 comes with a front facing finger print sensor which doubles as a home button, so like I had mentioned in my Nokia 5 review about the issue I had with the size of the button, I can happily say, is not the case with the Nokia 6. The button is big enough even for my chubby fingers and hardly had any issue while using the scanner. The Nokia 6 also comes with “Dolby Atmos” stereo speakers which gives high quality audio. Watching videos and gaming  also gets a lift with louder and sharper sound. Under the hood lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with an Adreno 505 GPU which is strong enough to handle most apps and games. In some cases it has performed better than some higher-end Media Tek processors. Kudos to Nokia for optimizing the processor and the software to give us such a buttery experience. Not only power, the Nokia 6 has 3GB of RAM to help apps stay open longer in the background without slowing down the device. If 32GB coupled with 3GB RAM is not enough for you, then there is a 64GB with 4GB RAM version available as well. Coming down to the cameras of the device, the Nokia 6 gets a bump from its younger brothers and sports a 16MP camera with f/2.0, phase detection, HDR, Auto focus and dual LED (dual tone) flash. On the front...
