How to Root a Nokia X, X+ and XL in 4 simple steps – [Guide]

Ever since Nokia announced their new line of Nokia X Android devices a couple of months back, the company has again managed to step in the limelight. Even though both the Nokia X and Nokia XL are based on the open source Android architecture, it does manage to distinguish its self from your traditional Android devices that include a few modifications and limitations imposed by the Finnish cellular giants that include Nokia’s own customized app store instead of the regular Google Play which is found on every Android device out there as yet and a bunch of other things as well. This little notion did disappoint a few potential buyers who wanted to give the Nokia X devices a try but were held back due to these minor drawbacks. Well you won’t be disappointed anymore. This is one of the main reasons for which the platform is so much adored and appreciated by not just developers but users in general as well. When it comes to rooting, the first name that springs in mind is XDA who throughout the years have managed to come up with solutions for almost all our Android related problems. Nokia X rooted with Google Apps – XDA does it again

Nokia X rooted with Google Apps – XDA does it again

The recently concluded Mobile World Congress was full of surprises with the biggest one coming in from Nokia with the announcement of their very first devices based on the core Android architecture, the Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL. The Finnish cellular giants had for long kept their distance from Google’s platform which has taken over the world by storm and is still continuing to do so as we speak. With that said, even though the new devices are developed using the Android platform, they tend to be somewhat different from you usually tend to see in your other Android devices. On the day of its launch, Nokia specifically mentioned that that both the devices would be having their own customized features and would also be supporting third party stores with no mention of Google Play in any of the discussions which technically meant that there would be no access to any of the Google Apps (G-Apps) like Google Now, Google Maps, Google Now Launcher, most importantly the Google Play Store. Now here’s the best part. No matter how hard you try concealing from the world, at the end of the day the device is actually running on Android isn’t it…which clearly means that even if anybody says its not possible to this or that…..we all know that eventually there is going to be a solution to everything. On that note, one of our friends at XDA Developers was able to run an old and well known exploit (Gandalf) to obtain root on the Nokia X. After that, he simply installed a file system explorer that can read system partitions, such as Root Explorer, and manually pushed all of the standard Google applications on to Nokia X’s system directory. Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? So there you have it guys, you must have heard of an old saying that goes something like this. “where there is a will..there is a way” and in this case there are a lot of things we can (and will) do once the devices start rolling out in a few months. This is probably one of the main reasons why we just can’t seem to get over our favorite little green robot can we?...

Cyanogen Mod gets new Boot loader Logo, CM 11 to soon follow

The Samsung Galaxy Gear gets web browsing support with latest custom ROM, New features also added

The Samsung Galaxy Gear gets web browsing support with latest custom ROM, New features also added

These days custom ROM’s can been seen running on almost every other rooted device that comes across and after seeing the success of Samsung’s first smart watch, the Galaxy Gear that was recently unveiled as a tag along accessory for the Galaxy Note3 is all set to receive its very own customized ROM thanks to our hardworking friends at XDA. The ROM brings with it a host of new features (those who have custom ROM running on a rooted device would probably be knowing about them) and also adds an important little flavor to the otherwise quite impressive GALAXY GEAR which is the ability to browse the web using its built in Bluetooth tethering option. Even though the Gear is able to run a variety of different apps, the one feature that it lacked was the ability for the user to browse the internet on it; but things are about to change with this handy new feature. Instead of connecting to the phone to collect data that the Gear app sends, the ROM allows the device to be connected using Bluetooth tethering with another device (phone/phablet/tablet)  that supports the Bluetooth tethering option. Given the device’s 1.6-inch screen, its very difficult to say as to exactly how you would be able to browse and enjoy the full perks of the web on such a small screen. The ROM also brings another good feature worth mentioning (that was previously missing with the device’s launch) is the ability to change wallpaper’s. FEATURES OF THE CUSTOM ROM MK7 BASE ROOTED SUPERUSER COMPLETELY DEODEXED NOVALAUNCHER INCLUDED HOMEBUTTON FIX / POWER BUTTON LOCKS SCREEN WHEN USING CUSTOM LAUNCHERS. NO WIPE BASE WEATHER WIDGET / REMOVED STATIC “WEATHER” TEXT DISABLED SAMSUNG SIGNATURE VERIFICATION NATIVE APK INSTALLATION INCREASED VIDEO RECORDING LIMIT TO 60 SECONDS VPN ENABLED CM10.2 BROWSER WALLPAPER SUPPORT LIVE WALLPAPER SUPPORT CM10.2 GALLERY THIRD PARTY CONTACT WIDGET & APP CRASH FIX SETTINGS / FULL SETTINGS DIALOG MTP SUPPORT / ENABLED IN STORAGE SETTINGS BLUETOOTH TETHERING MULTIPLE BLUETOOTH DEVICE PAIRING NATIVE EMAIL CLIENT CONTACTS SYNC CALENDAR SYNC PLAYSTORE ACCESS DOWNLOAD MANAGER If you’re also one of those who is willing to take a risk and root your device can head on over to the XDA Forum and download the customized ROM now but as with all other rooted devices, we would advice you to only go through with it at your own risk. Let us know of your browsing experiences next time you decide to stop by. Cheers!! Download...

Cyanogen Inc. to bag out three HUGE surprises – AirPlay Mirroring, CM11, New OEM Partner

Cyanogen Inc. to bag out three HUGE surprises – AirPlay Mirroring, CM11, New OEM Partner

Cyanogen Inc. has started the day with some amazing news, three of them actually on their Google+ account. A  new apk, news for their upcoming Custom ROM and a teaser that has made everybody start guessing. Get the whole low down below: Cyanogen Inc. Joins Hands with a Mystery Partner: According to sources Cyanogen has confirmed that they have a new hardware partner. Meaning a OEM running a CM ROM out of the box. This is great news for the developer community as we have all, known and loved the customization possibilities the CM ROMs provide. They were not willing to give any more hints as to who the new partner is, but according to rumors there is a high chance it could be Oppo, as they already have a device that comes with CM ROM out of the box, the Oppo N1. CyanogenMod (CM) 11 in Final Stages:   Cyanogen Inc. has confirmed that their new CM 11 ROM is under final stages and will be available as a nightly very soon. The post on Google+ was: We are in the final preparation stages for CM 11 nightlies as well – you crackflashers will have something to play with soon. For those who do not know CM 11 is based on the all new Android 4.4 KitKat OS. If you want to have a feel of it there is an unofficial CM11 build that you can try out. Be warned though it is a bit buggy. AirPlay Mirroring and Screen Recording Test apk:   The developers at Cyanogen Inc. have been busy building ROMs and apks. Recently they have come out with a test version of a screen recording app and AirPlay Mirroring which is similar to Miracast found on most high end devices. This basically helps you display whatever you are seeing on your device on a bigger screen, when connected on the same wireless network. Even though the apk is still in beta testing stage, you can have a crack at it from the download link below. The screen recording function will be good for people who like to make tutorial videos or How to’s for people who need the occasional help. Their official post stated: To use screen recording, it is very similar to screenshots. Instead of volume down + power (screenshot), press volume up + power. A notification will pop up that notifies you that your screen is being recorded. You can enable showing touches, and also stop the recordings. Recordings are saved to /sdcard/MirrorRecordings. To use airplay mirroring, go into Settings, displays, Wireless Displays. It will scan for airplay devices. Pick one, and it will mirror your screen....
