Microsoft have officially acquired LinkedIn for $26bn

Microsoft have officially acquired LinkedIn for $26bn

Microsoft has officially sealed its $26bn (£20bn, €24.5bn) LinkedIn acquisition deal, officially making the the owner of the popular social media platform. The closure comes almost six months after Microsoft’s intention to acquire LinkedIn first made headlines. “Today is an exciting day, one I’ve been looking forward to since June. It marks the close of the agreement for Microsoft to acquire LinkedIn and the beginning of our journey to bring together the world’s leading professional cloud and the world’s leading professional network,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a blog post. “As we articulated six months ago, our top priority is to accelerate LinkedIn’s growth, by adding value for every LinkedIn member,” he wrote. “However, we also see a greater opportunity to help ensure that everyone can benefit from digital technology and the new opportunities created by the digital economy. Technology alone will not solve these challenges, but together, working across private and public sectors, we can create more opportunity for everyone to participate and share in economic growth.” “Today I’m pleased to announce that we’ve just officially closed the acquisition. I’m more confident than ever that our move to join forces with Microsoft will accelerate our mission to connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful, and ultimately help create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce,” LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner wrote in a blog. Despite the massive integration plans, Weiner asserted that LinkedIn will “essentially remain unchanged”. The two firms will now begin to integrate their products and services. Nadella outlined “a specific set of integration scenarios” which are slated to come to fruition in the “immediate” future. These include features such as, LinkedIn notifications within Windows action center, allowing users to draft resumes on Word when updating LinkedIn profiles and more. The integration process will also involve developing a “business news desk” across MSN and other properties, indicating the likelihood of MSN advertisers possibly provided the opportunity to buy space on LinkedIn, which boasts of a 100 million strong monthly visitors, Business Insider reported. The two firms are also planning on collaborating on innovative technology, including working on AI (artificial intelligence), cloud computing, machine learning and more. Source: IBT...

Microsoft Paint for Windows 10 to get exciting new features including 3D Models

Microsoft Paint for Windows 10 to get exciting new features including 3D Models

Microsoft Paint which happens to be one of the oldest and most commonly used apps (programs as they were called back in the day) has been around since more than three decades now. As my memory recalls, paint was probably one of the first things that we learnt in school and since that day, it has happened to be on of my all time favorite utility tools for the PC. Keeping all the nostalgia aside, Microsoft has decided to revamp their renowned application by adding a bunch of exciting new features that lets you create full 3D based designs and models in a simplistic yet quite effective manner. The new version of Paint is exclusively for devices running on the company’s latest Windows 10 platform. We managed to get our hands on a few leaked tweets by  Twitter user WalkingCat who has shared two videos that clearly highlight the newly added features. We haven’t heard an official announcement from Microsoft as yet, but we are expecting to hear about it at their upcoming event on October 26th. Check out the videos below and let us know how you like the new features....

Tech Mela – Pakistan’s Biggest Online Festival is starting from 11th Sep 2015

From 11 to 20 September 2015, the largest online tech shopping festival in Pakistan will be on at www.techmela.com. Dubbed ‘Tech Mela’, this Google-supported online shopping event will last for a total of 10 days and focus on exclusive, special deals and discounts of up to 30% on smartphones, gadgets and data and voice plans that are only available online during this special period. Tania Aidrus, Country Manager South Asia Frontier at Google had this to say:  “Pakistan’s mobile industry is really taking off with more and more people coming online and using their smartphones as their primary Internet device. It is absolutely the right time to hold this virtual shopping festival just before the traditional holiday and festive period of Eid-ul-Adha and what better way than to hold it completely online where the next wave of buyers will be congregating. With Internet penetration growing rapidly and the desire to purchase on the Internet increasing, we hope this initiative will bring more awareness and adoption of e-commerce in Pakistan.” She added: “The majority of digital consumers in Pakistan are already researching online to decide which device to purchase, and for the most part they find online resources more relevant and credible to their purchase journey;” said Tania, “Tech Mela is an initiative to complete the research and purchase loop, and we hope the exclusive deals will spur greater acceptance of e-commerce among even more Pakistanis.”  According to TNS Research, there are 30 million online users in Pakistan, half of whom are using mobile for the purpose. Google is teaming up with e-commerce partner and top online shopping destination Daraz.pk to make Tech Mela happen this week onwards. To make things even more exciting, aside from special deals Tech Mela will also feature deals from Huawei, Samsung and Microsoft and several exclusive mobile device launches to the Pakistan market by companies like Infinix and Injoo. Microsoft Cortana coming to Android Next Month

Microsoft Cortana coming to Android Next Month

Have to admit it guys, we were a bit surprised when we heard the news ourselves. Microsoft has made some huge announcements regarding their upcoming (and supposedly quite revolutionary) Windows 10 OS for multiple devices. Part of that announcement included the launch of its renowned voice assistant service, Cortana for Android and iOS devices. Microsoft’s personal assistant is all set to make its debut on both platforms by the end of June. For those of you who are not aware of the personal voice assistant (considered by some including myself as one of the best voice assistants when being compared to Siri, S voice or Google Search + Google Now), Cortana does a number of things besides just sending out reminders and setting up your daily alarm. The Cortana app can do most of the things it can do on your PC or on a Windows phone. You can have Cortana remind you to pick up milk the next time you’re at the grocery store, and then your phone will wake up and buzz with the reminder. You’ll be able to track a flight using Cortana on both your phone and your PC, and get the updates on the device that you’re on so you don’t miss anything.  Everything in Cortana’s Notebook will show up across all your devices and any changes you make on one device will be reflected when you use Cortana on any of your other devices. The Cortana companion app will help you complete tasks you begin on your PC wherever you are, on your phone. Want to see more?  Watch the video below for a demo:   Although the functionality will be very helpful, because it’s “just an app” there will be certain things that Cortana does on Windows phones that won’t work on Android devices or iPhones.  Some features require access to the system that aren’t currently possible with iOS or Android, so things like toggling settings or opening apps won’t initially be available in the Cortana companions for those platforms.  Similarly, the ability to invoke Cortana hands-free by saying “Hey Cortana” requires special integration with the device’s microphone, so that feature will be limited to Windows Phones and PCs. Key Features of Cortana: You can have Cortana remind you to pick up milk the next time you’re at the grocery store, and then your phone will wake up and buzz with the reminder. You’ll be able to ask about the weather. Or sports scores. Or anything else you would head to a search engine for. You’ll be able to track a flight using Cortana on both your phone and your PC, and get the updates on the...
