Huawei Partners with TÜV Rheinland for Certification of SuperCharge Technology

Huawei Partners with TÜV Rheinland for Certification of SuperCharge Technology

Huawei Consumer Business Group today announced its cooperation with TÜV Rheinland to certify Huawei’s SuperCharge technology. Certification will mark the first time an end-to-end fast-charging technology has successfully completed the rigorous tests set forth by the world-renowned safety experts. Testing encompasses every component, requiring adapters, IC circuits and charging cable materials to pass safety,  low temperature and thermal shock tests. Submitting itself to the stringent oversight of TÜV Rheinland demonstrates Huawei’s continued mission to deliver the most innovative features on the market, and highlights Huawei’s commitment to delivering not only faster charging but more importantly safer charging. “Over the past 145 years, TÜV Rheinland has committed itself to ensuring that complex devices and products meet rigorous safety standards that meet consumer expectations,” said Kalyan Varma, VP of Business Field Electrical, Products, Global of TÜV Rheinland. “With the growing demand for fast charging solutions, we’re glad to work with Huawei to certify its SuperCharge technology using our proven testing methods and battery expertise. By monitoring every single point of the charging cycle, it is able to intelligently auto-adjust voltage and current output to maximize charging speed based on the capacity of the phone, adapter and cable. To keep Huawei’s fast-charging phones cool, Huawei SuperCharge uses a 4.5V/5A low-voltage charging solution. In addition, the connectors and charging jack on Huawei’s devices are programmed to automatically suspend the supply of electricity if they come into contact with water. This intelligent safeguard is in place to prevent short circuits and device...

IFA 2017, Huawei Consumer Business Group unveiled a new era in smartphone innovation. As part of CEO Richard Yu’s keynote address, he revealed Huawei’s vision for the future of artificial intelligence with the launch of the Kirin 970. By combining the power of the cloud with the speed and responsiveness of native AI processing, Huawei is bringing AI experiences to life and changing the way we interact with our devices. After years of development, Cloud AI has seen broad application, but user experience still has room for improvement, including latency, stability, and privacy. Cloud AI and On-Device AI can complement each other. On-Device AI offers strong sensing capabilities, which are the foundation of understanding and assisting people. Sensors produce a large amount of real-time, scenario-specific, and personalized data. Supported by strong chip processing capabilities, devices will become more cognitive of user needs, providing truly personalized and readily accessible services. Kirin 970 is powered by an 8-core CPU and a new generation 12-core GPU. Built using a 10nm advanced process, the chipset packs 5.5 billion transistors into an area of only one cm².  Huawei’s new flagship Kirin 970 is Huawei’s first mobile AI computing platform featuring a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Compared to a quad-core Cortex-A73 CPU cluster, the Kirin 970’s new heterogeneous computing architecture delivers up to 25x the performance with 50x greater efficiency. Simply put, the Kirin 970 can perform the same AI computing tasks faster and with far less power. In a benchmark image recognition test, the Kirin 970 processed 2,000 images per minute, which was faster than other chips on the market. New developments in AI require joint effort across the entire value chain, involving tens of millions of developers, and the experience and feedback of hundreds of millions of users. Reviewing the Nokia 5

Reviewing the Nokia 5

Nokia with all the hype created for its Android debut has not disappointed us yet.  Starting from the Nokia 3, then Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and the upcoming flagship device the Nokia 8. The devices have withheld the body and the feel of some of their more successful Lumia devices mainly the 1020 and the 950, which is great. Today, our focus is on the mid ranger Nokia 5. Straight out of the bat, the device just looks gorgeous, specially the Tempered Blue version. The device has a 5.2 inch 1280 x 720 HD  polarized display wrapped around an aluminum uni-body.  The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass making the front of the device quite durable to front facing falls.  The display is quite sharp and makes streaming YouTube videos a pleasurable experience. Also, it is quite bright so using it outdoors was never a problem. The finger print scanner is housed on the front on the device which doubles as a home button which I personally do not like, as there were a couple of instances, while unlocking the device, I accidentally kept on opening Google Assistant. which became a bit annoying. The size of the scanner could have been slightly bigger, though understandable why Nokia opted for a smaller sensor, as we live in a world where small to no bezels have started to become a norm. That being said, the sensor is quite decent and works quite well in most cases. Under the hood lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, which is strong enough for most apps to work without a hitch, though some graphic intensive games like Injustice 2 did have a bit of lag. This is also due to the fact the device comes with only 2GB RAM, while most of the devices in its category are now housing 3GB. In terms of storage the device comes with 16Gb on board memory, but not to worry too much as it also houses a microSD card slot upto 128GB of storage. The device has a single speaker in the bottom, but is quite loud and holding the phone horizontally does not muzzle the sound at all which is great. Now talking about the camera’s, the Nokia 5 comes with a 13MP primary shooter and an 8MP camera on the front. One of the highlights about this device is that, both the camera’s have auto focus. This means no more blurred out or selfies or groupfies. The camera performs quite well in day light, specially the auto HDR mode helps in making the colors pop. Both cameras are capable of taking videos in Full HD (1920×1080). Macro shots from the...

The innovative “Selfie Phone”, was the main highlight of the event. TECNO officials emphasized on how the smartphone world has been rocked with the introduction of Camon CX series. The smartphone uses a smart image sensor supporting 16 mega pixels on the front camera coupled with TECNO’s unique ‘4 in 1’ technology. The smart pixel sensor basically captures the individual images and turns them into signals. These signals are then joined to form a single, brighter and clearer picture. This makes bright selfies in all kinds of environment especially the dark environments. Along with other features such as the customized ring flash on the rear camera which is a unique feature by TECNO only, light speed charge and a full HD screen, it is now easier than ever to take photos on the go. These 30% brighter selfies are effectively paired with a high-end de-noising system, making the pictures vivid and clear, even in situations with dull light. Yet, if that extra boost of light is still needed, the dual front flash does the job perfectly without blurring or distorting images. All of this gives the Camon user a true selfie experience. Camon CX Air was also displayed at the launch event. Both smartphones featured a number of industry firsts. Building trust among the customers is an important factor for an international brand like TECNO Mobile. Karandaaz Fostering Financial Inclusion and Women Entrepreneurship in Pakistan

Karandaaz Fostering Financial Inclusion and Women Entrepreneurship in Pakistan

It is a fact that Pakistan faces gender disparity at various social levels. The country ranks 143 out of 144 in the Global Gender Gap Report of 2016 in terms of economic participation and opportunities for women. This global ranking has been unchanged since 2015 because of the complexity surrounding the socioeconomic factors like employment, financial inclusion, business and asset ownership. Efforts are being made to minimize the gender disparity level in the country. In this regard, Karandaaz Pakistan in collaboration with Department for International Development (UKAid) has launched a program, Innovation Challenge Fund, focused on supporting female entrepreneurs in Pakistan. In 2014, only 25%  of the 90 million Pakistani women actively participated in some form of labor. From 2004 to 2013, the average work force gap between Pakistan and the South Asia market decreased, and an in-depth review of the statistics reveals that most of this development is due to the growth in Pakistani agriculture sector, which increased from 67% to 75%. However, the share of women in industry, services, wage and salaried work has decreased by 3.6%, 4.6% and 6.6% respectively. The above mentioned decline in women’s work participation appeared at the time when adult female literacy rate was increased by 75% between 2005 and 2015. This missed opportunity elaborates the fact that we have a decent number of educated female individuals but the number of females who are actually contributing to the various strata of economy is very less. Last year, the Women’s Economic Participation and Empowerment status in Pakistan published by the UN Women, analyzing various factors representing gender disparity, reported that the policies in Pakistan and subsequent initiatives merely focused on income generation rather than economic inclusion targets set for women. This kind of short-term focus results in one-off initiatives and greater unskilled employment rather than entrepreneurship or highly skilled jobs. The report also highlighted the financial inclusion of females, a sustainable solution, and associated it with the deeper inclusion of women in conventional economy, which would allow them to generate sustainable livelihoods. Only 13% of women are able to borrow from a Micro-finance institution and merely 5% of women have a bank account and in Pakistan. This is because of the fact that a low percentage of women have ownership, joint or otherwise, of physical capital which is an important requirement by the financial institutions. Greater access to formal finance can improve economic empowerment and allow an increasing number of women to participate in the formal economy. It can be argued that better financial access is both a cause and a result of economic participation, as more working class women signify better financial inclusion. Similarly, another report – Financial Inclusion...
