Daraz.pk soaring in 2016 – Year in Review

Introducing the QMobile Z12 Pro – [Hands-On Review]

Introducing the QMobile Z12 Pro – [Hands-On Review]

QMobile has been in the market for quite a long time now and it has seen its ups and downs. This year they came up with a plethora of devices and a few stood out, one of them being the Z12 Pro. After using the device for a few days, I was quite happy (Sigh of Relief) with how QMobile has evolved in terms of feel and software smoothness. Ok! so diving right in, the QMobile Z12 Pro comes with a 5.5 inch FHD (1920×1080) display, with  a full metal body, bottom grill speakers and a fingerprint scanner. The device has a good grip, especially with the transparent back cover you get with the device. The device has dual sim capabilities, so you don’t need to carry another device for your office number. Qmobile have been generous enough to slip in an OTG cable in the box as well (for full details you can check out our un-boxing video). The FHD IPS LCD display is quite sharp, but you need to increase the brightness to around 80% to see it in bright sunlight. The sound on the device is pretty good, thanks to the DTS  integration, you can actually hear the difference when it is activated or not. On the power front, this mid ranger is no slouch, it runs on an 1.3 Ghz Media Tek Octa Core processor with 3GB of RAM, multi-tasking is very much do-able without a hitch, but some graphic heavy games such as Mortal Kombat X did tend to show a slight sign of lag, which you could easily look past if you are not a heavy gamer. The Z12 Pro comes with 32GB of storage (no 16GB model..YESS!!!) which is more than enough for hoarding pics, music, videos or just apps.If that is not enough you can always add a microSD card (upto 64GB) to bump up the storage. The device runs on Android 6.0.1 out of the box with QMobile’s own theme on it, so you get all the Android Marshmallow goodies with it with some additional benefits from the theme. Now looking at the camera’s on this device, the 13MP main camera, was able to take some really nice macro-shots and even some landscape shot as well, but again lighting is very important, so if you want to take low-light photos, you can get pictures but not as good as some of it competitors. We have taken some sample shots, so you can decide for yourself. The front 8MP camera comes with a flash, and to be really honest, it happily surprised me, the selfies came out pretty great. Finally the device runs on a 3,150 mAh battery...

CyanogenMod will now be known as LineageOS after company decides to close down major operations

CyanogenMod will now be known as LineageOS after company decides to close down major operations

It is indeed with a very heavy heart that we are posting this, but as you all must be knowing by now, our favorite CyanogenMod have officially decided to call it a day. In case you haven’t heard, Cyanogen Inc.is going through some big changes. The company is consolidating all of their efforts to a single Palo Alto office in California in order to better work their future endeavors. But with that also came word that some key personnel will be taking exits. Actually, “some key personnel” would be a vast understatement — Steve Kondik, for whom Cyanogen was a brainchild, is leaving the company. Thankfully, Cyanogen Inc. isn’t looking to screw over the development community with this move. While the company will be shutting down their efforts on CyanogenMod (not Cyanogen the OS) at the end of this year, they will make the source code available for anyone who wants to continue building on it. So, of course, a new team arrives to take that task: meet LineageOS. We’re not sure where LineageOS will go from here. We know the team consists of some folks from the original CyanogenMod project who either didn’t or couldn’t join in for the corporate hell ride, but we’re not sure who, exactly. We don’t even know for sure if Steve Kondik will be joining in, though a Tweet with the hashtag “Lineage” on his timeline seems to suggest as much. In any case, CyanogenMod is gone, and if you want to continue following the spiritual successor to that then here are the accounts you’ll want to pay attention to: @LineageAndroid on Twitter Lineage on Facebook +Lineage on Google+ LineageOS.org Source:...

Details of which have been kept a hush hush but what we do know for a fact is that both the devices would be operating on the all new Android Wear 2.0 which promises to add a bunch of new exciting features. The most prominent additions to Android Wear 2.0 is the support for standalone apps which don’t require your smartphone, support for Android Pay and support for Google’s voice-activated Assistant that can be currently found in the Pixel devices. The update is also scheduled to arrive on a bunch of newer devices but for those of you who have older devices like the original Moto 360  or the ASUS ZenWatch are (unfortunately) not supported due to their hardware limitations most noticeable being the absence of NFC which is required for Android Pay to work. The devices that are scheduled to receive the Android Wear 2.0 update include the following: Moto 360 Gen 2 Moto 360 Sport LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE LG Watch Urbane LG G Watch R Polar M600 Casio Smart Outdoor Watch Nixon Mission Tag Heuer Connected Fossil Q Wander Fossil Q Marshal Fossil Q Founder Michael Kors Access Bradshaw Smartwatch Michael Kors Access Dylan Smartwatch Huawei Watch Huawei Watch Ladies Asus ZenWatch 2 Asus ZenWatch 3 Even though we were  left a bit saddened by the fact that the Moto 360 would not be getting the update since that was our very first Android Wear device, it does give us an added incentive to treat ourself to any of the aforementioned or maybe even one of the new upcoming Google devices this holiday season. Will keep you guys posted on this in the weeks to...

Facebook Messenger adds group video calling feature for up to 6 people

Facebook Messenger has started rolling out a new update today which adds the much awaited group video calling feature for both Android and iOS. The group video calling feature currently works for up to 6 people at a time. More members of a group chat can listen in or join via a voice call up to maximum 50 people as that is the cap set by Facebook on its group chats. Initiating a group video call is easy, just open your desired group chat (or create a new one), and select who you’d like to ring individually, or call the entire group and see who picks up. It’s pretty straight forward but the real test is the actual performance of Facebook Messenger’s group video calls under various network conditions and data speeds. The feature is good especially for people who have relatives and friends living abroad. For those of you who have already received the update, we would love to hear your experiences with your first group video call in the comments below. Cheers!!...

Whatsapp working on a new update which allows you to Edit and Delete Sent Messages

Whatsapp has been adding a lot of new features lately with the most recent ones being the option to make video calls and share GIF files. The most commonly used messaging app in the world is about to add another useful feature, the ability to edit and delete sent messages. Our friends on twitter, WABetaInfo (one of the most reliable sources of whatsapp updates especially for iOS) claim to have discovered the feature in the Whatsapp 2.17.1.869 beta build for iOS. A video tweeted by them shows the deletion process in action. If you want to delete a sent message on both ends, hold the desired message long enough until the options for that message appear on your screen, select the “revoke” option and the message will be deleted on both ends. The edit option works the same way, hold down the message you want to edit and select the “edit” option to make amends in the message content. WhatsApp beta for iOS 2.17.1.869: how revoking messages work. #hidden#whatsappbetapic.twitter.com/pEfGfZO1gN — WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo) December 14, 2016j Both the features are currently in testing stage on iOS (as in the case with all previous major Whatsapp updates) and there has been no official word out as yet from the company as to exactly when we can expect to get these on our Android devices. One thing is for sure though, the edit and revoke (delete message) features would definitely come in handy on a number of different occasions. For now, that’s all the update we have on this, will keep you guys posted on any news that surface pertaining the same in the weeks to...
