Google officially announces Android 4.4 KitKat
By now we have all been accustomed to Android which throughout the years has adapted names (in alphabetical order) mostly from desserts and sweets starting with Android 1.5 “Cupcake” followed by Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean. So what should we expect from Google next? That seemed to be the question on everyone’s minds since months now with most of us even hearing rumors about Android’s next OS to be termed as Key Lime Pie…..well from what it seems now, that’s not to be the case !! Google today have officially announced that the next version of its coveted OS would be titled “Android 4.4 KitKat”. Surprised to see the next Android version named after one of the most loved chocolates in the world? We were too.
Android CEO Mr. Sundar Pichai who was recently on an Asian tour, had this to say on his official g+ account;
“On my return from Asia, I was also thrilled to find this guy waiting to greet me on the front lawn — love the new #AndroidKitKat statue and can’t wait to release the next version of the platform that is as sweet as the candy bar that’s one of our team’s favorites :)”
Google in a special partnership with Nestle have started a contest where you could win yourself a Nexus 7 tablet or Google Play Store credit on specially marked Kit Kat candy bars. Nestle plans to sell more than 50 million chocolate bars featuring the Android mascot.
Android 4.4 Kit Kat is said to be compatible on most devices but so far there has not been any word as to exactly when we could expect Android’s next big update to arrive. From the looks of things, we won’t have to wait for long (hopefully). Kudos to Google for once again pulling another amazing product out of the hat.
